Copying Bouguereau in Chapel Hill

The photo below is the beginning of my third day copying Venus with Doves, 1879 by William Bouguereau. Many thanks to Lyn and the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill, North Carolina for such a great opportunity.

I used what is believed to be Bouguereau's general palette arrangement including some historic colors such as Chinese Vermilion, Chrome yellow and even Bitumen. It was remarkable to realize how few colors he used to gain the subtle tonal variations for which he was so well known for in figure painting.

Poppy Appeal Donation

£1000 from the sale of In Flanders Fields will be donated to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The painting was displayed in the Royal Box at Newbury Racecourse on October 27th, 2012. The raceday celebrated the Armed Forces and the launch of the Royal British Legion Berkshire Poppy Appeal.

Grouse and Claret auctioned in charity fundraiser.

The picture was donated to The Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust to be sold in their October 19th auction in Englefield House, Berkshire. Other items auctioned included a day's fishing on the River Test, a day's Wildfowling and a day of Stalking amoung others. Grouse and Claret was the final lot and sold well with some exciting bidding.
